Welcome to I.S. 235, Academy for New Americans! We are a Queens borough-wide program in District 30 dedicated to newly arrived immigrant students in grades 6-8. Our mission is to provide a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student is seen, heard, and celebrated. Our unique approach includes: Comprehensive Language Support: We offer tailored programs like English as a New Language (ENL) and Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) to ensure effective language acquisition and academic success. Innovative Enrichment: Students can explore S.T.E.A.M, Robotics, Hydroponics, and Financial Literacy classes. We also offer World Language classes for high school credit. Arts and Cultural Integration: Partnerships with the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Lincoln Center, and ArtsConnection allow students to explore theater, dance, music, and art. Student-Centered Programs: Through our Student Leadership Ambassador Program, students become confident leaders. Our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) practices, along with access to counseling, ensure students are emotionally supported. Community Engagement: We organize field trips to universities, museums, and cultural institutions and involve students in community service projects to broaden their horizons. Our Parent Partnership and Community Engagement Program provides ongoing workshops, events, and multilingual resources to keep families informed and actively involved in their children's education. At I.S. 235, we are more than a school-we are a community where potential is discovered, nurtured, and realized
